'The Art Gallery Murder'  Synopsis

Ronnie MacIntosh, the famous artist, has arranged for a private art exhibition among friends before the Tate opens his work to the public. However when all the guests arrive MacIntosh is nowhere to be found - alive that is.

Taking artwork to a new height Ronnie appears to have committed suicide and is found hung from the ceiling surrounded by empty bottles of expensive champagne. Beside him is a small plaque which reads: "Pickled Artist". As a career move it certainly increases the value of his sales - but did he really commit suicide, or was he in fact executed by one of the guests?

A simple to use, entertaining murder mystery appropriate for both first timers and regular players. With scripted dialogue to enhance the rounds, this mystery manages to mix art deco, canapes and wine with a murder most complex.

We enjoyed playing the game with 7 people. 1.Filled the living room with art and enjoyed tappas and champagne cocktails. 2.However, in this time of CSI, we missed forensic evidence. The reason Vera Sin was arrested, was due to her having the most likely motive. We found that Amalia Fairfart was at least as likely a murderer, because she's much more experienced with ropes. The fingerprint tool is cute, but useless as forensics go. Add clues with hairs, blood, drugs etc. and make the game up to date. 3. I wanted to print the clues for different rounds on different coloured paper, which was difficult because they are not in order of round, but all mixed (pdf). 4. As host you should be aware that inspector Napp does not have a part in the game.

 Hercule Pernod
Private detective

Unlike his Agatha Christie counterpart, Belgian private detective Hercule Pernod’s grey cells take more abuse from cracking cases of wine, than from cracking criminal cases. Even so, he does quite well for himself. He has a large apartment, and a large waistline.

Miss Lemming
Pernod's secretary

Miss Lemming is Hercule Pernod’s scatty secretary. She is efficient at her job, but doesn’t really keep up with current affairs.

Captain Pastings
Retired Captain and sports car fanatic

Captain Pastings is a decent sort of a chap, bursting with the energy and the inexperience of youth. After returning from serving in the forces in India he made his money in wallpaper manufacture.

Ameila Fairfart
Solo hot air balloonist

Solo female hot air ballooning expert Amelia Fairfart is lively and flamboyant, more than a match for any man at the party, though she has a soft spot for Captain Pastings.

Ernest Shingleton
Famous Explorer

Ernest Shingleton is a famous explorer. He is strong, dashing and brilliant and what’s more, he is head over heels in love with Laura Ghastly.

Laura Ghastly
Fashion and Interior designer

Laura Ghastly is a fashion and interior designer, though sometimes one wonders if she gets the curtain fabric muddled up with the clothing.

Marc D'Triumph
French Ambassador

Marc D’Triumph is the flamboyant French Ambassador.

Vera Sin
High Society Club Hostess

Vera Sin runs the high society club “Bottoms Up”. She is an excellent hostess, attractive, smoothly spoken, good with names, and able to put people at their ease.

Otto Von Blockwurst
German Ambassador

Otto Von Blockwurst is a sausage guzzling German Ambassador who has an intimidating presence and a loud voice.

Inspector Napp

Inspector Napp of Scotland Yard has been sent to investigate the murder of Ronnie MacIntosh.

Mother Inferior
Nun

Mother Inferior is a model nun and is somewhat out of place at the party. She enjoys art work, but prefers frescos to modern art and isn’t too impressed by Ronnie MacIntosh’s artistic ability.
